Best and Worst Household Chores

Good afternoon everyone. I have just finished doing a mountain of ironing. This is a task I hate. It got me thinking of the different household tasks I do and which ones I like and dislike.

Top Three Best Chores

Best and Worst Household Chores

1) Hoovering. Or to be correct vacuuming. This wasnt always my favourite task. Before the introduction of bagless cleaners with clear cylinders it was just another task, but there is something oddly satisfying about watching the cylinder filling up with dust and pet fur (you would not believe the amount of hair that comes off one small cat).

2) Washing up. I have a terrible habit of leaving the dishes from our evening meal in the sink till the next day, and therefore am usually greeted with a sight like above most mornings. I like to fill the sink with boiling hot water and tackle the dish mountain, safe in the knowledge that they will stay clean and sparkling all day.

3) Cleaning the bath. I am quite a messy, clumsy person and the bathroom is no different. I drop toothpaste, spill shampoo and create carnage when I try to dye my hair, but I do love the seeing my bathroom sparkling white.

Top Three Worst Tasks

Best and Worst Household Chores

1) No prizes for guessing ironing is at the top. It is hot work, it makes my back ache, and living as I do with a very messy fella (and prior to that two messy boys) the clothes inevitably end up crumpled again before they get worn.

2) Drying up. As much as I love washing up, the follow up task has never appealed to me. As a kid me and my brothers would always argue over who had to do the drying. These days I always let it drain. Acording to my food hygiene training, this is the more hygienic method.

3) Dusting. I can only blame myself for my dislike of this task. I simply have too many things, trinkets and ornaments (of dragons mainly). It takes forever to remove each one, clean the shelves and then the ornaments themselves.

That is my top three best and worst chores. Do you agree with them? If not what are your favourite and worst chores?

I don’t really like any household chore but I find it therapeutic at times to scrub the hell out of something. My worst chore is definitely the laundry – especially loading, unloading and the ironing!!! #MixItUp

I love dusting! When I was little I’d spend an hour dusting and polishing all my Mum’s ornaments and trinkets and even though I don’t have has many myself I still love grabbing the duster and polish and giving everything a nice sparkle. I can’t vacuum and I never liked washing up. I always liked drying up though. Ironically, now i have a dishwasher, I like filling it but not emptying. I gave up ironing years ago, there isn’t much point. I do, however, like to iron the kids school clothes. One job I really hate is cleaning windows, especially our patio doors.

What if you just let the dishes dry overnight? Sure, there’ll be a “drop” stain here and there.. but who cares?!?!

I really don’t mind doing some dishes with some music. I have vacuuming though. Does my back in…!!!

Hi Tracey, I never used to enjoy ironing, but now I don’t mind it so much. I usually do it whilst listening to the radio or a podcast of something I wanted to listen to. I hate vacuuming, we have dogs and when they are moulting their fur quickly fills the tiny cylinder, so my children are mainly in charge of that chore and as we only have carpets down in the winter it’s not too bad.

In the summer when the floors are bare I do enjoy sweeping and mopping through (don’t tell the family), I love the clean smell and dirt free floors. Although I don’t do it too often for fear of the novelty wearing off!

I like doing housework and hate it in equal measure. I find it very therapeutic as I have a good old think up while I’m doing it. Takes me longer than it should as a result – lots to think about!! Don’t have the time to spend doing it is the downside. Loves : Hoovering, dusting, floor washing, tidying, fluffying. Dislikes : Don’t deal with bins or rubbish. Beds annoy me. The kids bedroom grates. Thanks for hosting #abitofeverything xxx

Your vacuum cleaner is a monster. When I first saw the thumbnail on the linky link thing I thought it was a dalek. That’s gotta make vacuum cleaning much more joyous. I find doing the dishes quite therapeutic but my worst chore at the moment is cleaning up after my baby and toddler have eaten. Somehow there is always more food to clean up than was ever on their plates to begin with.

I have mastered the art if tumble ironing. Take it out the dryer at the optimum time when its still hot and fold immediately. No ironing needed!!
