Caerphilly Castle – My Sunday Photo – 15/10/17

Hello everyone. Once again this week I delved into my cameras archives and  found some photos of Caerphilly Castle for #mysundayphoto.

These pictures were taken a couple of years ago at the Caerphilly Big Cheese festival. The festival was a celebration of the towns famous cheese, but also offered visitors free entry into the Caerphilly castle to look around.

I’m a huge fan of castles and jumped at the chance to look around such a large and significant castle. These pictures are some that I didn’t use on my original write-up of the castle and festival.

I love this archway as it clearly shows how they have used new stonework to rebuild parts of the castle.

I’m rather keen on arches.

Some people argue that thw castle should remain untouched, but I like seeing the modern repairs so that we can see what parts of the castle would have looked like in their heyday x

I’ve never visited that castle but it’ll be on my list. I live in the North East of Scotland and am lucky to have over 300 castles nearby. I’m working my way through visiting them all. It may take some time! 😀

We love castles too. I don’t think we’ve ever visited the one in Caerphilly though – will have to rectify that!

I believe it is the 2nd biggest castle in wales and was used as the centre of welsh politics in the past (history geek!)
