Civil War – My Sunday Photo – 08/07/18

Hello everyone. Todays photo is something I saw while  out shopping. We’re really lucky living close to Chepstow. The town really embraces its historical past and we often come across people dressed in historical costumes at the weekend.

This weekend sees the first part of a 2 week event celebrating the last time Chepstow Castle was under seige. This happened 370 years ago, in the middle of the civil war. The royalists had control of the castle at that time, but parlimentarians lay seige and using cannons broke through the castle walls.

A group of men dressed in royalist costumes dating from the civil war.

Todays event showed the Royalists marching through the town to the castle and taking control of it.

Next Saturday will see the Parlimentarians take the castle back. Unfortunately we wont be able to see next weeks display, but i’m sure it will be spectacular.
