Crochet Giraffe – Free Pattern – Off The Hook

Hello everyone.  Today I’m sharing the pattern for a really cute little crochet giraffe. I chose to make him in a really funky multi coloured yarn, but he could easily be made in traditional yellow with circles of brown sewn on for the spots.

4mm hook

Chunky yarn

All crochet terms are in the US style.
Sc = single crochet
Slip st = slip stitch
2sc = 2 single crochet into the same stitch
2tog = sc the next to stitches together

HEAD

(1)  Ch 4, join into ring. Make 6 sc into ring.

(2) 2sc in each stitch.

(3) *Sc next stitch, 2sc into next stitch* 6 times.

(4) *Sc in next 2 stitches , 2sc in next st* 6 times.

(5 -9) Sc  into each stitch

(10) Sc into next 6 stitches, 2sc, sc, 2sc, sc, 2sc, sc into next 2 stitches  2sc, sc, 2sc, sc, 2sc, sc into last 6 stitches.

(11) S into next 7 stitches  *2sc, sc into next 2 stitches * 5 times, 2sc, sc into next 7 stitches.

(12) sc into each stitch

(13) *Sc into next 5 stitches, 2sc* 6 times

(14-17) sc into each stitch.

(18) Sc into next 5 stitches, 2 tog* 6 times

(19 – 20) Sc into each stitch.

(21)  *Sc into next 4 stitches , 2 tog*  times

(22) Sc  into each stitch.

(23)* Sc into  next 3 stitches,  2 tog*6 times

(24) Sc into in each stitch. STUFF

(25) Sc into  next 2 stitches,  2 tog* 6 times

(26) Sc, 2 tog* 6 times

(27) 2tog 6 times.

Horns

(1)  Ch 4, join into ring. Make 6 sc into ring.

(2) *Sc, 2sc *3 times

(3)  Sc into  each stitch.

(4) *sc, 2 tog* 3 times

(5) *Sc, 2 to* 2 times.

(6-9) Sc into each stitch.

Ears

(1)  Ch 4, join into ring. Make 6 sc into ring.

(2) Sc  into each stitch .

(3) *Sc, 2sc* 2 times, sc last stitch

(4) Sc next 2 stitches , 2sc* 2 times, sc last stitch.

(5-7) Sc into each stitch.

(8) *Sc next 2 stitches , 2 tog* 2 times, sc last stitch.

(9-10)  Sc into each stitch.

LEGS

(1)  Ch 4, join into ring. Make 6 sc into ring.

(2) 2sc in each stitch.

(3) *Sc next stitch, 2sc into next stitch* 6 times.

(4) *Sc in next 2 stitches , 2sc in next st* 6 times.

(5 -6) Sc  into each stitch

(7) *Sc, 2 tog* 8 times

(8) * Sc next 6 stitches , 2 tog* 2 times CHANGE COLOUR

(9 – 18)  Sc into each stitch.

Tail

(1)  Ch 4, join into ring. Make 4 sc into ring.

(2 – 6) Sc in each stitch.

Cut 6 small strands if yarn. Attach to hook onto one of the stitches of the 1st row, put the strand over the hook, pull through to make a loop, put both end of the yarn over the hook and pull through the loop. Repeat for all strands of yarn. Unwind the strands to make a fluffy end to the tail.

Body

(1)  Ch 4, join into ring. Make 6 sc into ring.

(2) 2sc in each stitch.

(3) *Sc next stitch, 2sc into next stitch* 6 times.

(4) *Sc in next 2 stitches , 2sc in next st* 6 times.

(5)*Sc in next 3 stitches, 2sc in next stitch* 6 times.

(6) Sc into each stitch.

(7) *sc in next 4 stitches, 2sc in next stitch * 6 times.

(8-10) Sc in each stitch.

(11) *sc in next 5 stitches, 2sc in next stitch* 6 times.

(12-19) sc in each stitch.

(20)* Sc next 5, 2 tog* 6 times

(21) Sc  into each stitch.

(22) *sc next 4 stitches , 2 tog* 6 times

(23-24) Sc into each stitch.

(25) *Sc next 3 stitches, 2 tog* 6 times

(26)*Sc  next 5 stitches , 2 tog* 6 times

(27) *Sc next 4, 2 tog* 6 times

(28-39) Sc  into each stitch.  STUFF

Sew together and embroider on eyes and nostrils.
