Crochet Mario – Free Pattern – Off The Hook

Hello everyone.  Back last year I shared two Mario Bros patterns with you. One for Princess Peach and one for Luigi. Today I am sharing another pattern from this set, the main man himself. So here is my  crochet Mario.

Crochet Mario Pattern

3mm hook

DK yarn.

Sc = single crochet US style.
Hdc = half double crochet US style.
Dc = double crochet US style.
2sc = 2 single crochet into same stitch.
2 tog = crochet next 2 stitches together.

All pieces are worked in continuous rounds. Use a stitch marker to mark the start of a new row.

Head

(1) Ch 4, join into ring. Make 6 sc into ring.

(2) 2sc in each stitch.

(3) *Sc next stitch, 2sc into next stitch* 6 times.

(4) *Sc in next 2 stitches , 2sc in next stitch* 6 times.

(5) *Sc in next 3 stitches, 2sc in next stitch* 6 times.

(6) *Sc in next 4 stitches, 2sc in next stitch* 6 times.

(7-8) Sc in each stitch.

(9) *Sc in next 5 stitches, 2sc in next stitch* 6 times.

(10) *Sc in next 6 stitches, 2sc in next stitch* 6 times.

(11) *Sc in next 7 stitches, 2sc in next stitch* 6 times.

(12-19) Sc in each stitch.

(20) *Sc in next 7 stitches, 2 tog* 6 times.

(21) *Sc in next 6 stitches, 2 tog* 6 times.

(22) *Sc in next 5, 2 tog* 5 times.

(23-24) Sc in each stitch.

(25) *Sc in next 4 stitches, 2 tog* 6 times.

(26) *Sc in next 3 stitch, 2 tog* 6 times

STUFF HEAD

(27)* Sc in next 2 stitches, 2 tog* 6 times.

(28) *sc in next stitch, 2 tog * 6 times.

(29) *2 tog * 6 times.

Body

(1) Ch 4, join into ring. Make 6 sc into ring.

(2) 2sc in each stitch.

(3) *Sc next stitch, 2sc into next stitch* 6 times.

(4) *Sc in next 2 stitches , 2sc in next st* 6 times.

(5)*Sc in next 3 stitches, 2sc in next stitch* 6 times.

(6) *sc in next 4 stitches, 2sc in next stitch * 6 times.

(7-8) Sc in each stitch.

(9) *sc in next 5 stitches, 2sc in next stitch* 6 times.

(10) *sc in next 6 stitches, 2sc in next stitch* 6 times.

(11) *sc in next 7 stitches, 2sc in next stitch* 6 times.

(12) *sc in next 8 stitches, 2sc in next stitch* 6 times.

(13-19) sc in each stitch.

(20) *sc in next 8 stitches, 2tog* 6 times.

(21) sc in each stitch.

(22) *sc in next 7 stitches, 2tog* 6 times.

(23) sc in each stitch.

(24) *sc in next 6 stitches, 2tog* 6 times. Change colour to red yarn.

(25) sc in each stitch.

(26) *sc in next 5 stitches, 2tog* 6 times.

(27) sc in each stitch.

(28) *sc in next 4 stitches, 2tog* 6 times.

(29)*sc next 3 stitches , 2 tog* 6 times.

(30) * Sc next 2 stitches, 2tog* 6 times. Change colour to pink yarn.

(31-32) Sc in each stitch.

Nose

(1) Ch 4, 2sc into 2nd chain from hook, sc, 4sc into last chain, turn wor and working into back loops sc, 2sc.

(2) 2sc into the first 2 stitches , sc, 2sc into the next 4 stitches, sc, 2sc into the last 2 stitches.

(3) *Sc into next 2 stitches , 2sc* 6 times

(4-6) Sc into each stitch

(7) *Sc into next 2 stitches , 2tog* 6 times

Stuff nose and attatch in centre of the head/face.

Moustache x 2

(1) chain 7, slip stitch into first from hook, sc into next ch, hdc, dc, hdc sc, ch 1, turn work and working into back loops sc, hdc, dc, hdc, sc, slip st, ch 3 slip st into back of 3rd ch, slip stitch to join to first slip st.

Attatch moustache below nose, pointing upwards. Embroider in eyes above the nose at this point.

Hands/arms x2

(1) Ch 4, join into ring. Make 6 sc into ring.

(2) 2sc in each stitch.

(3) *Sc next stitch, 2sc into next stitch* 6 times.

(4) *Sc in next 2 stitches , 2sc in next st* 6 times.

(5-8) sc into each stitch.

(9)* sc into next 10, 2tog* 2 times

(10) * sc into next 9, 2tog* 2 times

(11) * sc into next 8, 2tog* 2 times

(12) * sc into next 7, 2tog* 2 times

(13) Hdc in each stitch. Change colour.

(14) The hdc stitch makes 3 loops at the top of the stitch. Work into back loop sc in each. This will push the first two loops forward.

(15 -29) sc into each stitch.

(30) ch 1 (turning stitch) turn work, sc into next 8 stitches.

(31) ch 1, turn, sc into next 8 stitches.

Top Band Of Gloves

(1) Using white yarn make 2sc into each of the chain stitches that were pushed forward.

(2) *sc 2tog * 18 times.

Stuff and attatch to body.

Shoes/legs x2

(1) ch 9, 2 hdc in second ch from hook, sc into next 6 stitches, 6 hdc in next ch, turn working into the back loops sc into next 6, 2hdc into the last back loop.

(2) 2hdc in next 2 stitches, hdc into next 6 stitches, 2 hdc in the next 6 stitches, hdc into the next 6 stirches 2hdc into next 2 stitches.

(3) *hdc, 2hdc* 2 times hdc into next 6, *hdc, 2hdc* 6 times, hdc into next 6 stitches, hdc, 2hdc.

(4) Working in back loops only.

(5-6) Sc into each stitch.

(7) Sc, 2tog, sc, 2tog, sc into next 7 stitches, *sc,sc, 2tog* 4 times, sc into next 7 stitches, sc, 2tog.

(8) Sc into next 11 stitches, *sc, 2tog* 4 times, sc into next 9 stitches.

(9) Sc, 2tog, sc into next 7 stitches, *sc, 2tog* 3 times, sc into next 7 stitches, 2tog.

(10) Sc into next 9 stitches, *2tog* 3 times, sc into next 8 stitches.
Change colour.

(11-27) Sc into each stitch.

Attatch legs row 6 from bottom.

Hat

(1) Ch 4, join into ring. Make 6 sc into ring.

(2) 2sc in each stitch.

(3) *Sc next stitch, 2sc into next stitch* 6 times.

(4) *Sc in next 2 stitches , 2sc in next st* 6 times.

(5)*Sc in next 3 stitches, 2sc in next stitch* 6 times.

(6) *sc in next 4 stitches, 2sc in next stitch * 6 times.

(7) *sc in next 5 stitches, 2sc in next stitch* 6 times.

(8) sc into each stitch

(9) *sc into next 6 stitches, 2sc* 6 times

(10) *sc into next 7 stitches 2sc* 6 times

(11-15) sc into each stitch.

(16) Next 26 *next 2, 2sc* 7 times.

(17) sc into each stitch.

(18) ch 1 (turning stitch not to be worked) Turn work *sc, 2sc* 9 times.

(19) ch 1, Turn work , *next 2, 2sc* 6 times. Cast off. Sew the edge of the brim on each side to the cap to make a rounded edge.

Badge

(1) Ch 4, join into ring. Make 6 sc into ring.

(2) 2sc in each stitch.

(3) *Sc next stitch, 2sc into next stitch* 6 times.

(4) *Sc in next 2 stitches , 2sc in next st* 6 times.

Embroider an M in the centre of the circle in red yarn.

Ears x2

(1) Ch 4 and join to make a loop, 4 hdc into loop.

(2) ch 1(turning chain, not to be worked, 2hdc into each stitch.

sc along straight edge of ear. Attatch just below the hat.

Hair

(1) ch 24, sc into 2nd chain from hook, sc into next 20 chains.
(2-7) sc into each sitch.

(8) 2tog, sc into next 18 stitches, 2tog.

(9) 2tog, sc into next 16 stitches, 2tog.

(10) 2tog, sc into next 14 stitches, 2tog. Sew bellow botton edge of hat.

Using same colour yarn as for the hair embroider thin sideburns in front of each ear.

Dungaree Straps

(1) chain 24, sc into 2nd chain from hook, sc into next 22 chains.

(2) Sc into each stitch.

Attatch to edge of trousers at the back, look over shoulder and attatch to the front of the trousers with yellow yarn. Use yellow yarn to embroider a small circle (button) on each strap.

Embroider eyes and eyebrows to complete the Mario.

    He’s fantastic! I’m still not finished making Luigi though, I really need to get a move on but I seem to have load of projects on the go at the same time, I just can’t get focused. I’m keeping Mario for later though.
