Crochet Yoshi – Free Pattern
Hello everyone. Todays pattern is a crochet Yoshi. This is the fourth in my set of Mario Bros characters. The other patterns I’ve published are Luigi Princess Peach and Mario.
Crochet Yoshi Pattern
Sc = single crochet US style.
Hdc = half double crochet US style.
Dc = double crochet US style.
2sc = 2 single crochet into same stitch.
2 tog = crochet next 2 stitches together.
Many of the pieces are worked in continuous rounds. Use a stitch marker to mark the start of a new row.
Head.
(1) Ch 4, join into ring. Make 6 sc into ring.
(2) 2sc in each stitch.
(3) *Sc next stitch, 2sc into next stitch* 6 times.
(4) *Sc in next 2 stitches , 2sc in next stitch* 6 times.
(5) *Sc in next 3 stitches, 2sc in next stitch* 6 times.
(6) *Sc in next 4 stitches, 2sc in next stitch* 6 times.
7) sc into each stitch
8) sc into next 5 stitches, 2sc* 6 times
9-16) sc into each stitch
17) *Sc in next 5, 2 tog* 6 times.
18) sc into each stitch
19) *Sc in next 4 stitches, 2 tog* 6 times.
20) *Sc in next 3 stitch, 2 tog* STUFF.
21)* Sc in next 2 stitches, 2 tog* 6 times.
22) *sc in next stitch, 2 tog * 6 times.
23) *2 tog * 6 times.
Nose
(1) Ch 4, join into ring. Make 6 sc into ring.
(2) 2sc in each stitch.
(3) *Sc next stitch, 2sc into next stitch* 6 times.
(4) *Sc in next 2 stitches, 2sc in next stitch* 6 times.
(5) *Sc in next 3 stitches, 2sc in next stitch* 6 times.
(6) *Sc in next 4 stitches, 2sc in next stitch* 6 times.
7) sc into each stitch
8) sc into next 5 stitches, 2sc* 6 times
9) sc into next 6 stitches 2sc* 6 times
10-18) sc into each stitch
19) *sc into next 6 stitches, 2tog* 6 times
20) *Sc in next 5, 2 tog* 6 times.
21) sc into each stitch
22) *Sc in next 4 stitches, 2 tog* 6 times.
23) *Sc in next 3 stitch, 2 tog* STUFF.
24)* Sc in next 2 stitches, 2 tog* 6 times.
Sew onto front of head.
Cheeks
(1) Ch 4, join into ring. Make 6 sc into ring.
(2) 2sc in each stitch.
(3) *Sc next stitch, 2sc into next stitch* 6 times.
(4) *Sc in next 2 stitches, 2sc in next stitch* 6 times.
(5) *Sc in next 3 stitches, 2sc in next stitch* 6 times.
6) sc into each stitch
Sew onto side of face 3/4 of the way round, lightly stuff then finish sewing around.
Eyes (the green bit)
1) Ch 4 join to make a circle, 6sc into circle.
2) Sc, 2sc* 3 times
3) Sc into next 2 stitches, 2sc* 3 times
4) Sc into next 3 stitches 2sc* 3 times
5) Sc into next 4 stitches, 2sc* 3 times
6-11) Sc into each stitch.
Stuff and sew to top of head.
Eyes (the white bit)
1) Ch 5, sc into the first 3 chains starting 2nd chain from hook, 2sc into last chain, turning work aroundand working intk back loops sc into next 3 stitches.
2) 2sc,sc into next 2 stitchs, 2sc into next 2 stitches, sc into next 2 stitches, 2sc.
3) Sc, 2sc into next stitch, sc into next 2 stitches, *sc, 2sc* twice, sc into next 2 stitches , sc, 2sc.
Sew onto green bit of eye and embroider on pupil.
Jaw and mouth
Mouth
1) In red chain 7, sc into each chain starting 2nd chain from hook.
2) Ch1 (turning chain) 2sc, sc into next 4 stitches , 2sc.
3) Ch1 (turning chain) Sc into each.
4) Ch1 (turning chain) 2sc, sc into next 6 stitches, 2sc.
5-7) Ch1 (turning chain) sc into each stitch.
Jaw
1) In white chain 7, sc into each stitch starting 2nd ch from hook.
2) Ch1 (turning chain) 2sc, sc into next 4 stitches, 2sc.
3) Ch1 (turning chain) 2sc, sc into to next 6 stitches, 2sc
4) Ch1 (turning chain) 2sc, sc into next 8 stitches, 2sc
5) Ch1 (turning chain) 2sc, sc into k next 10 stitches, 2sc
6) Ch1 (turning chain) 2sc, sc into i next 12 stitches, 2sc
7) Ch1 (turning chain) 2sc, sc jnto next 14 stitches, 2sc
8) Ch1 (turning chain) 2sc, sc into next 16 stitches, 2sc.
9-10) Ch1 (turning chain) sc into each stitch
Sew the white jaw section around the edge of the red mouth section. Stuff and sew to head, just bellow the nose.
Body
(1) In green Ch 4, join into ring. Make 6 sc into ring.
(2) 2sc in each stitch.
(3) *Sc next stitch, 2sc into next stitch* 6 times.
(4) *Sc in next 2 stitches , 2sc in next st* 6 times.
(5)*Sc in next 3 stitches, 2sc in next stitch* 6 times.
(6) *sc in next 4 stitches, 2sc in next stitch * 6 times.
(7) *sc in next 5 stitches, 2sc in next stitch* 6 times.
(8) *sc in next 6 stitches, 2sc in next stitch* 6 times.
(9-10) sc in each stitch.
(11) *sc in next 7 stitches, 2sc in next stitch* 6 times.
(12) sc in each stitch.
(13) *sc in next 8 stitches, 2sc in next stitch* 6 times.
(14-23) sc in each stitch.
(24) *sc in next 8 stitches, 2tog* 6 times.
(25) sc in each stitch.
(26) *sc in next 7 stitches, 2tog* 6 times.
(27) sc in each stitch.
(28) *sc in next 6 stitches, 2tog* 6 times.
(29) sc in each stitch.
(30) *sc in next 5 stitches, 2tog* 6 times.
(31) sc in each stitch.
(32) *sc in next 4 stitches, 2tog* 6 times.
(33) sc in each stitch.

(1) In green Ch 4, join into ring. Make 4 sc into ring.

Attatch, bottom of tail on row 6 from bum.
White belly
1) in white Ch 2 Sc into 2nd from hook
2) Ch1 (turning chain) 2sc.
3) Ch1 (turning chain) 2sc into each stitch.
4) Ch1 (turning chain) 2sc, sc into next 2 stitches, 2sc.
5) Ch1 (turning chain) 2sc, sc into next 4 stitches, 2sc.
6)Ch1 (turning chain) 2sc, sc into next 6 stitches, 2sc.
7)Ch1 (turning chain) Sc in each stitch.
8)Ch1 (turning chain) 2sc, sc into next 8 stitches, 2sc.

Sew onto body.
Arms
(1) In green Ch 4, join into ring. Make 6 sc into ring.
(2) 2sc in each stitch.
(3) *Sc next stitch, 2sc into next stitch* 6 times.
4) sc in each stitch.
5) *Sc in next 2 stitches , 2sc in next stitch* 6 times.
6) sc in each stitch.
(5) *Sc in next 3 stitches, 2sc in next stitch* 6 times.
(6) Sc into next 13 stitches, sc 2tog.
7) Sc into next 12 stitches, sc 2tog.
8) Sc into next 11 stitches, sc 2tog.
9) Sc into next 10 stitches, sc 2tog.
10) Sc into next 9 stitches, sc 2tog
11) Sc into next 8 stitches, sc 2tog.
12) Sc into next 7 stitches, sc 2tog.
13 – 22) Sc into each stitch.
Fingers (4 for each hand)
1)In green Ch 4 join in loop, 4sc into loop.
2)Sc, 2sc* 2 times
3)Sc into each stitch
Stuff and sew evenly spaced along top of each hand/arm.
Shoes/legs
1) In yellow chain 9, make 2 hdc in second ch from hook, hdc into next 6 chains, 6 hdc in next ch, turn work and working intk back loops hdc into next 6 stitches, 2hdc.
2) 2 hdc in next 2 stitches , hdc into next 6 stitches, 2 hdc in next 6 stitches, hdc into next 6 stitches, 2hdc.
3) *Hdc, 2hdc* 2 times, hdc into next 6, *hdc, 2hdc* 6 times, hdc into next 6 stitches, hdc, 2hdc.
4) Change to orange, working in back loop only: Sc in each stitch.
5-6) Sc in each stitch.
7) Sc, sc 2tog, sc, sc 2tog, sc into next 7 stitches , *sc,sc, 2tog* 4 times, sc next 7 stitchs, sc, 2tog.
8) Sc next 11 stitches, *sc, 2tog* 4 times, sc next 9 stitches.
9) Sc, sc 2tog, sc next 7 stitches, *sc, 2tog* 3 times, sc next 7 stitches, 2tog.
10) sc next 9 stitches , * sc 2tog* 3 times, sc next 8 stitches.
11) Hdc into each stitch.
12) Change to green, working the back loop only (leaving 2 loops pushed foeward) sc into each stitch.
13-22) sc into each stitch.
Top of boot
1) working in orange sc into one of the pushed forward stitches on the boot, work a 3nd sc into that stitch, work 2sc into each pushed forward stitch.
2) *sc 2tog* repeat till end of row.
Shell
(1)In red Ch 4, join into ring. Make 6 sc into ring.
(2) 2sc in each stitch.
(3) *Sc next stitch, 2sc into next stitch* 6 times.
(4) *Sc in next 2 stitches , 2sc in next st* 6 times.
(5)*Sc in next 3 stitches, 2sc in next stitch* 6 times.
6) sc into each stitch.
7) *sc in next 4 stitches, 2sc in next stitch * 6 times.
8) *sc in next 5 stitches, 2sc in next stitch* 6 times.
9)sc into each stitch. Change to white
10) *sc, sc 2sc into next stitch* repeat till end
11) *sc next 2 stitches* repeat till end
12) * sc next 2, sc 2tog* repeat till end.
13) *Sc, sc 2tog* repeat till end.
Sew 3/4 of the way round onto back, stuff and finish sewing.
Spikes (make 3)
1)On red Ch 7, sc into each chain starting 2nd chain from km the hook.
2) Ch 1 (turning chain) sc 2tog, sc into the next 2 stitches, sc 2tog.
3) Ch1 (turning chain) *sc 2tog* 2 times
4)Ch1 (turning chain) sc 2tog. Sc round edge of triangle.
Sew along back of head between eyes and shell.
The finished crochet Yoshi is really cute.
