Mad Cat Lady – Starter Pack

Hello everyone. How many cats does it take to become a mad cat woman? I ask because we have two new furry additions to the Abrahams household, bringing the total number of cats to 4.

Welcome Bert and Ellie

I’ve wanted a new kitten for quite a while now, but it took a little while to talk (nag and pester) Mr A into seeing things my way. The plan was initially to get just one, as kittens are not cheep these days. However when we first visited the kittens home when they were just a week old I knew we would end up having two.

We initially chose two little ginger boys, and had decided to call them Bert and Ernie.

But tragedy struck at 4 weeks and one of the little boys had a fatal accident in his water dish. When we went to see them again at 5 weeks the cat lady told us of the accident and gave us the option to either have the deposit back for the one boy, or chose a different kitten from the litter. They had a pure black kitten, and pure white one and this gorgeous little tabby girl. It was a bit of a no-brainer, we were hooked at first sight.

After waiting another 3 weeks till they were old enough to leave mum, we finally got them just over a week ago.

Initially we were going to stick with the names Bert and Ernie, but our little tabby girl just looks too delicate to be and Ernie, so a few days ago we renamed her Ellie.

I did worry a little in the weeks before they arrived that the appeal of having kittens would quickly pass and I might regret spending so much money on them (you know the way you really really want something, and when you get it, suddenly its a bit meh). Luckily thats not the case. They are friendly, confident and I can happily spend hours just watching their antics. Great for me, not so good for the housework.

Have you got a new pet recently? What pet would you get if you could have anything?

My daughters are at that point where they are starting to ask for a pet but I am not falling for it for a second. I know that I will be left to take care of him/her so right now not a chance. I consider my hands full enough running around after them. Very cute kitties though!! #abitofeverything

They do look so cute. Have to admit we are dog people, though, and have two. The crabby, middleaged but loveable despite herself Bella, and the wonderfully gormless, ever eager, Bella-baiting but so friendly with us Lily. #ABitOfEverything

If I were ever to move back into a house with a back garden I would love another dog, but being in a first floor flat its not really practical

I get that, our dogs are smallish, but they do need space. They have to be brought out on long walks, because they are not independent like cats. Also, Lily can’t be let loose with other dogs around, as she can be aggressive. Utterly unlike how she is with humans!

Awww, Bert and Ellie are so cute. I adore cats and have two at the moment. Sabrina who has just turned 10 years old and Ash who is my baby at just over a year old. The most cats I have had at any one time is four. But I’d easily be happy surrounded by them. But they can be expensive, especially immunisations and Vet visits.

Im lucky that all mine are 100% indoor cats due to living in a flat (they have plenty of toys, and climbing posts for exercise) so the chance of them getting ill or injured is vastly reduced
