Mix – How To Add Posts And Create Collections

Hello readers. Followers of my blog will know I’ve always been big fan of Stumbleupon.  However as of yesterday (the 1st July) Stumbleupon no longer exists as an online platform.

Instead the developers of Stumbleupon have come up with a new improved platform. Mix.com shares a lot of features with Stumbleupon. It is at its heart a place where people can search for blog posts, articles, podcasts and videos on a huge range of different subjects and interests.

As with the old platform users can add posts they have read to Mix. Where it differs is how posts are organised within Mix.
Stumbleupon use to assign posts to interest groups. This had two downfalls, firstly it could be difficult to decide what interest a post should be categorised. The second problem was when adding a post via a mobile device, Stumbelupon would often put posts in the wrong interest group.

Mix have a clever way of dealing with both of those issues. Each user on Mix has their own collections of posts. These collections are named by the user themselves. When a user add posts they have to chose collections they would like to add them to. A post can be added to multiple collections. If it doesn’t fit any existing collection, the user can set up a new collection.
Users can also add things they come across on Mix to their own collections.

Six circles, 3 at the top of the screen, 3 at the bottom. Each circles is labled. Pets/animals, Reviews, Humour, Health, Home, Parenting

Adding Posts/Articles To Mix

Currently there are no social share buttons for Mix. This is something WordPress have said they are working on.
However it is possible to add articles and posts to Mix using a mobile device. This is done in almost the same way as posts were added to Stumbleupon so shouldn’t be too hard for users to pick up.

(1) Go to the post/article you wish to add, and click on the three dots on the top right of the page.

(2) From the drop down menu scroll down and click on share.

(3) Scroll across and click on the Mix button.

(4) When you get to the add post page on Mix you have a couple of options. Firstly you can chose to add a comment to the post.

A screenshot of the Mix page, an orange arrow pointed to the comment box

To add a comment type it in the box and then press post. You don’t need to add a comment in order to add a post. However I think any added detail you can give to post will help it get seen on Mix.

(5) After adding comments you should chose the categories to add the post to. Scroll down the list of existing categories and tick the box for any that apply.

If there isn’t a suitable category add a new one. To do this type the category name where it says ‘type a name’ then click create.

Once you have ticked all the category boxes press done.

I think Mix will soon prove to be  a great place to share some blogger love. Are you using Mix yet? Have you used it to add posts yet or are you just using it to find things to read?

Scientific Fact ~ Bloggers feed on blog comments. Please help keep this blogger well fed♡

Thank you, Mrs A Xx

I am using Mix and I am having an issue with it. I want to add an interest to what I see in the “for you” tab but i do not know how to do it. It seems there is no way to add a new topic of things you would like to see.

This is something that has been mentioned by several people as a glitch. Unless you’re using an apple device there is currently no way of changing your initial interest choices. Mix are aware of the problem, but I can only hope that if more people email/tweet them about it they will work on resolving it.

This was really helpful. I signed up to Mix but haven’t really got to grips with it! I hope WordPress sort the share buttons soon as I do almost everything on my laptop not my mobile. Thanks for linking up with #globalblogging

I had no idea stumbleupon was gone. It seems this new site is sort of like a mix between that and pinterest? Interesting. I will check it out. Thanks!
