Poppies – My Sunday Photo – 28/05/17

Hello everyone. I have to confess to being a very below average kind of gardener. Once I’ve planted or sewn a seed its very much up to the plant itself to stay alive.

Many plants fail to survive under such lax care, but occasionally I will put something in my little front garden that thrives despite the lack of attention they get.

A beautiful example of this is my poppies. Grown from seeds I harvested from a friends garden, they have taken over the garden this year. Their huge scarlet blooms against the green foliage look amazing at the moment.

Are you an expert gardener or do you also go for the plant it and hope method of gardening?
If you are good at gardening can you recommend other plants I can buy that thrive on neglect?

I thought the poppy was an autumnal flower but seeing them pop up around here has made me question our natural world. #MySundayPhoto

Your gardening technique made me smile as that’s mine too. I am such a plant killer but your poppy looks like it’s done so well!

I love poppies. We have some collected from my Grandparent’s garden decades ago, that come up sometimes. It looks like it’s a poppy year for us this year. I love the centres. Like small elaborate iced cakes. I can recommend poached egg plants. Easy, pretty and great for the wildlife. #MySundayPhoto

A fabulous poppy! They are one of my favs too. We only have a balcony but house plants don’t fair very well under my care. I do better with veggies, for some reason (we plant in tubs).

I am generally not good with houseplants either although I have an aloe vera that refuses to die 😊

Hi Tracey, I too am a hopeless gardener, although this year I am trying my hand at some veggies and after a few weeks the plants are still alive! Poppies are one of my favourite flowers but don’t last long in the heat here. I can recommend cacti as plants that thrive on neglect ( I have a few that have stood the test of time) and are extremely forgiving and when they flower they are so pretty.

    xx

I’m the same as you. Surprisingly we have our Rose bush starting to bloom. I thought it had been killed off over the winter.

Thats another deceptive pic. Most of it is covered with weeds. I can’t go out and clear it cus of the downstair neighbours and their ‘weed’
