Review -Steampunk Global Made To Order Corset

Hello everyone. As you may be aware, over the last couple of years I have become a lover of all things steampunk. There are all manner of things about steampunk that appeal to me. Arts, crafts and music, but what initially caught my eye and what continues to fascinate me is the fashion.

Outfits are a huge part of steampunk. Although these can be based on recognised themes such as Victorian dress, corsets, military uniforms etc the key feature when designing a steampunk outfit is individuality.

When I put together my first outfit I wanted it to be something spectacular and unique. However being a larger lady I’m accustomed to the fact that I often have to settle  on what little is available in my size rather than what I might picture in my head.

I was hoping when I  bought my first corset that this wouldn’t be the case.  But when I looked at a well-known online corset retailer I only found one corset in my size.

It’s a beautiful corset. Very well made, and standing up I look rather fabulous in it.

However there are problems with it.  Firstly over-bust  corsets are really not suitable for steampunk ladies with ample bosoms. When I sit down my boobs try to strangle me!

Secondly there is the issue of individuality. I’ve seen several ladies wearing this style corset in the past year. Although each time the  outfit was customised in a different way it’s still a bit of a bummer.

However because of the lack of choice online I persevered with this particular corset for quite a while. Then I came upon a solution to my corset dilemma.

Steampunk Global

Rob, Jill and Faye are the amazing trio who run Steampunk Global. They sell a wide range of  steampunk clothing, shoes and accessories including  beautiful corsets. Mr A and I initially met them at a steampunk event back in 2016. The same day the pictures above were taken.

While we were looking around the corsets Rob and Jill came over. They started chatting to us about the corsets they had on display. We told them we were just looking because we didn’t have the money to make a purchase on they day. I was pleasantly surprised to find they still took the time to  chat.

After explaining my problem finding under-bust corsets to fit my size, Rob told me their corsets go up to sizes much bigger than me. If they didn’t have a particular size in stock they would order it. Further more they did not charge extra for larger sizes.

I’ve since joked that less than 5 minutes after first meeting him Rob was undressing me! This was actually to properly measure me. I also tried on a range of different corsets to see what shape and size best suited me.

The warm, friendly professional service we received from the Steampuk Global team that day paid off because when I decided to buy a new corset this year they were the people I contacted.

Bespoke Corsets

Earlier in this post I mentioned the importance of individuality in steampunk costumes and  to promote this Steampunk Global now offer a bespoke corset service.

When ordering a corset customers can choose from any style corset on their website made in any colour and design fabric. Fabrics can come from their own range, or the customer can purchase their own fabric to be made into the style they  chose. There is a huge selection of corsets on their website, but Rob and Jill are also happy to look for other designs if you have a particular style in mind.

So after days of deliberation and consultation with various friends I eventually picked this style (which is an example of a design Rob found that isn’t currently on the website). It is a steel boned under-bust corset with C-lock fastenings at the front, lace fastening at the back and a 6 inch modesty panel.

It took a few weeks for the corset to be made up, and when I finally recieved it I was over the moon. It is simply stunning. If I was a professional blogger I would have taken pictures of it before I unwrapped it. However Rob delivered it to me at a steampunk event, so obviously I had to put it on there and then (picture Mr A lacing me up in front of a vaste array of steampunks and pirates).

As you can see it looks fabulous. I have worn it to several events since and have recieved fabulous comments about it every time.

The corsets are brilliant for steampunk events but would also look fabulous teamed up with jeans and a shirt for a night out. I plan on buying more corsets from Rob and Jill this year.

Have you ever bought a corset. Would you consider using a bespoke service like this?

I love those corsets! I have yet to dress up myself but I do attend several events out here in Southern California where steampunk attire would be appropriate. I keep saying one day that I will dress up because I get super excited about everyone’s costumes. Perhaps this year I can dress up for the Dickens Festival. #MixitUP

Thanks for introducing me to Steampunk Global. There's also a corset maker local to here that I met at a Wonderwool event. i've not braved bespoke probably because of the ost and the lack of events I'd wear it at, but love the idea.
I have a fab steampunk corset with the same catches as on yours but its very typical steam punk ie a copper/brown colour. You'll see it at the Neath event next month

Yes, you would think not but if they fit and are laced up porperly they are quite comftable. You can breathe easily and eat in them. Mobility is a bit harder as you cannot bend at the waist, so you have to be aware of that when you sit or stand but its not really a problem xx

OMG! I love it! I love Steampunk too so it’s a win-win for me! I wish they had Steampunk events around my way but sadly they don’t. However, I have bookmarked their site so when I get my taxes done they are going to be one of the first places I stop to look for a new corset. I haven’t had a new one in several years. It’s time:) #MondayStumble

I love that colour!! It can be so frustrating when trying to find the right size, sometimes it feels like everything is designed for only one body type and that isn’t mine. It can actually feel depressing at times. So it is lovely to hear how they have such a range of sizes, even if it takes a few weeks it is worth it to find something so well made, beautiful and the right size! You look awesome in it!
