So What – I’m Not Old (to the tune of Pinks ‘So What’)

Hello everyone. Back in March my friend and fellow steampunk had a birthday. Notable only in the fact that it is the last one before a big one. Around the same time she decided to get her hair cut. Not a massive change, just a rather cute fringe.

Neither if these events seem overly significant, but my friends teenage daughter put the two together and decided that her mum was in the early stages of a mid-life crisis.

I have written this parody based on  my friends favourite song as a response to the terrible mid-life crisis accusation (this is a typically tongue in cheek response, she is a lovely girl really).

‘So What, I’m not old’

Na,na,na,na,na,na,na
Na,na,na,na,na,na.
Na,na,na,na,na,na,na
Na,na,na,na,na,na.

Last week I had my birthday,
I’ve just turned 39.
So I gotta act my age now.
My daughter she said its time. Nope!
I’ve got the same old attitude.
That didn’t change over night.
I wanna do the same stuff,
I’m gonna do it right.

Na,na,na, na,na,na,na
I’m gonna do it right.
Na,na,na,na,na,na,na
I’m gonna do it right!

So, so what, I’m still a youngster.
I still wear short skirts and get my hair dyed.
And guess what, I still have great sex.
Get drunk on chilled Becks.
I’m gonna show you tonight,
I’m still fun, I’m still cool.
And you’re a fool.
So, so what, I’m still a youngster.
I still get cat calls.
So I’ll live my way, alright!

(Uh, check my fringe, uh)

You call it my midlife crisis,
A middle age cry for help. Yeah!
Because I’m still being myself.
I think you’re a cheeky whelp.
What if I dance to the radio,
What if I stay out all night.
I’m gonna rock my high heels,
and wear my tops way too tight!

Na,na,na,na
I’m staying out all night.
Na,na,na,na
My tops are all stupidly tight!

So, so what, I’m still a youngster.
I still wear short skirts and get my hair dyed.
And guess what, I still have great sex,
Get drunk on chilled Becks.
I’m gonna show you tonight,
I’m still fun, I’m still cool.
And you’re a fool.
So, so what, I’m still a youngster.
I still get cat calls.
So I’ll live my way, alright!

You cannot see,
I still feel young.
Inside my head,
I’m 21.

I go to work.
I’m also mum.
So now and then,
I need some fun!

So, so what, I’m still a youngster.
I still wear short skirts and get my hair dyed.
And guess what, I still have great sex,
Get drunk on chilled Becks (chilled Becks)
I’m gonna show you tonight,
I’m still fun (I’m still fun) I’m still cool.
And you’re a fool.
So, so what, I’m still a youngster.
I still get cat calls.
So I’ll live my way, alright!

No, no. No, no.
I’ll live my way tonight.
You cannot see.

I’m gonna show you tonight.
I’m still fun, I’m still cool.
and you’re a fool,
So, so what, I’m still a youngster.
I still get cat calls.
So I’ll live my way, alright!

Ba,da,da, da,da,da!

So there it is, my response to cheeky teenagers everywhere who think their mums and dads are in crisis.

Have you ever been accused of having a mid-life crisis? Or are you regularly embarrassed by the antics of your own parents?

This is good. I remember my parents seeming really old and out of fashion when I was a teenager and I couldn’t understand why they didn’t seem to care. And guess what my eldest is getting to that self conscious point (not quite a teenager) and I find that i am at the stage of life where I don’t care either. Great post. I sang it in my mind! #twinklytuesday

Embarrassing teens is part of being a good parent. Its payback for having to deal with all the toddler stuff

Getting old doesn’t mean we should stop having fun and it’s good to remind the teenagers of that every now and again. I am facing 50 and whilst I am dreading it I will celebrate in style with my kids like or not. Great lyrics. #coolmumclub

Yay! I love your parodies. I’ll be celebrating this very birthday myself next year and don’t consider myself any thing like middle aged haha. “Uh, check my fringe, uh” really made me chuckle. Brilliant and good fun to read! X #coolmumclub

I have passed that milestone unfortunately, but am far from middle aged or grown up.
That line is so Vicky (the friend who’s song it is) I can just see her singing it as she flicks her fringe 😆

The great thing about getting older is you no longer give a —-! I feel like you do. My father retired and I asked him what he does with himself and he replied “whatever I want” and that is the great thing about mid life. Life is too short to followother peoples rules:) #bigpinklink
