What Do Jeremy Corbyn, David Bowie and Freddie Mercury Have In Common?
Hello everyone. The title of this post is an odd one I’ll admit. You could be mistaken for thinking it’s the start of a joke, or a trick question, but actually despite what you may think they do have things in common. So let me explain…..
First lets get the glaringly obvious ones out the way. They are all men and they are all British. These are undeniably true facts, but they don’t actually make up a very good post. Instead I am going to share a few real similarities between the three.
Fact #1 -They are the same age (almost)
Jeremy Corbyn is only slightly younger than our two musical legends would be if they were here today. Jeremy is 67. David was 69 when he passed away at the beginning of the year, and Freddie would have celebrated his 70th birthday last month.
Fact #2 – They were all educated in London
David is a Londoner born and bred. He was born in Brixton but moved to Bromley when he was young and went to college their.
Freddie only moved to England in his teens and studied art and design at Isleworth Polytechnic (west London) and Ealing Art College.
Jeremy Corbyn studied at North London Polytechnic in Islington, the borough for which he has represented (Islington North) as an MP since 1983.
Fact #3 The have style
Now it can be said beyond a shadow of a doubt that David and Freddie had style by the bucket load, but why on earth would I include Jeremy in this category. Well (in my opinion) there is no doubt he has his own unique style. Very different from the spit and Polish look of most MPs.
Fact #4 – They each have an alternative approach to their work
David Bowie was the man who was forever reinventing himself. He made being different cool and that is one of the reasons he was so loved by his fans.
Freddie was also an innovator, ready to do things differently to the crowd. I mean Bohemian Rhapsody (the best song in the world, ever) was nothing like people had ever heard before (or since really).
And Jeremy is an alternative politician. Whether you are red/yellow/blue/green or purple, if you like him or not, there can be no doubt that he is practicing a very different style of politics than has been seen in the UK for a very long timeeen
Fact #5 – They all have very loyal fans
Although Jeremy has supporters rather than fans the loyalty and devotion which they show is on par with the fans of Freddie and David. And this is what lead me on to my top fact that they share (and the reason behind this post) *drum roll*
Fact #6 – I have been asked to make crochet models of each of them
These three men are so popular with their fans that I have in the past few months been paid proper money to immortalise them in wool.
Freddie has been made wearing his fabulous outfit from the 1986 Wembley concerts.
David has been dressed in his 1970’s Ziggy Stardust costume.
Jeremy is bang up to date in his 2016 parliament costume.
All of my softies are handmade to order. if you would like to own your own Jeremy, David or Freddie pop over to my Facebook page Hooks And Dragons and send me a message. Jeremy and Freddie cost £21 plus postage. David costs £23 plus postage.
I am looking at adding to my famous people range of softies after Christmas. I have a plan for a Slash softie and some different Freddie Mercury ones. Who else would you love to see me make?
